Family Support

Help & Advice

Based at the Centre, we have a fantastic and highly qualified staff of Family Support Workers. Our friendly team can help families to work through some of the complex issues that parents with disabled children face. We provide a holistic approach to our work encompassing support for the whole family as a unit. Examples of some of the areas of support we can provide:

  • Emotional Support
  • Grant applications
  • Housing Issues
  • Educational, Health and Social Care Plans (EHC)
  • Benefit advice and support to fill in applications

If for any reason, we were unable to provide this support first hand then we signpost families to relevant services.

22/11/23 At present we are unable to accept referrals for family support as we have an extensive waiting list. All our other services remain open and if you would like to submit a referral anyway, we will signpost you to other relevant services.

When I was first given a Family Support Worker, I was mentally struggling with a lot going on and having someone there who understood my child’s circumstances was a relief and a huge help. The support made me calmer and more able to see the way forward for our family.

Supporting Families

Aiming Higher support staff have achieved some very positive outcomes from the work they have undertaken. Some of the great outcomes have included: sourcing grants to fund carers breaks and sensory equipment for children’s rooms. We have supported families on the brink of homelessness to find accommodation. We have provided practical and emotional support to numerous families from the point of receiving the initial diagnosis of a child; through the Educational Health and Social Care Plan and if appropriate the transition into special schools.

If you would like help or you are a professional who would like to refer someone to our services please complete our referral form or call the office on 01253 206447. Thank you.

For me, Aiming Higher have been a massive moral support – I didn’t ever feel judged, they allowed me to vent openly and honestly – I didn’t feel I had to worry about what I said, they would allow me to kick off and get it off my chest and then say “ok, what can we do to help?” I’ve never had support like this before or since.
