Take a Walk on the Wildside! Fundraising Challenge

Take a Walk on the Wildside! Fundraising Challenge

Aiming Higher relies heavily on fundraising, donations and sponsorship to be able to provide the wonderful services they do, and to date have helped more than a thousand children and families.

The cost of registration for this hiking challenge,is solely to cover the mountain leaders and guides, and therefore participants are asked to also consider fundraising (e.g. sponsor forms) to ensure Aiming Higher can continue with their vital services.

For 2024 Aiming Higher are inviting you to join them in their annual fundraising walk - this year in the Lake District, on 3rd August, taking on the Fairfield Horseshoe and we want you to join us.

The Fairfield Horseshoe is a classic and challenging circular walking route in the Lake District, Cumbria, England. It is named for its horseshoe-shaped ridge that surrounds the Fairfield massif, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding fells and valleys. The hike is popular and provides an unforgettable mountain adventure taking in 8 Wainwright summits along the way.

The Fairfield Horseshoe will start and finish in Ambleside, a popular starting point and there are various parking options available in the village.  The route will see you tackle 8 peaks (all of which are Wainwrights) with the highlight of the walk being reaching the summit of Fairfield, standing at 873 meters (2,864 feet) above sea level. The summit provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the Lake District's highest peaks and valleys.

There are many routes cited - ours will take the anticlockwise route starting from Ambleside with a gentle ascent up Low Pike (508m) and concluding on Nab Scar, located to the east of Rydal.  We will then drop back down into Ambleside, returning to our starting point.

The Fairfield Horseshoe requires a good level of fitness and you will need to be able to walk for approximately 11 miles (approx. 18km) across mountainous terrain involving ascent and descent. It's advisable to wear appropriate hiking gear, carry enough water and snacks, and be prepared for changes in weather conditions, as the Lake District weather can be unpredictable.

A level of fitness is great but this walk is designed so that many people can succeed. We move slowly where necessary and people can have time on the mountain as needed. There are also plenty of breaks. Also, the sooner you book the more time you have to train.
You will be supported by a team of professional mountain guides which is included in the cost.

Costs exclude equipment, travel and accommodation costs.

Once registered you will receive further details including a recommended kit list, expectations, timings, local accommodation and most importantly, how to raise money for this amazing charity.
To support this brilliant charity, sign up and let us take you there!
