Our Support During Covid-19 Outbreak

Many of the families that we support have come under increased pressure due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The way we work has had to change, with no groups, trips, or our usual face-to-face support.  However, the whole team continue to work supporting our families in different ways.

How we are helping

  • Food parcels for those in financial need
  • Shopping delivered to those unable to get out due to self-isolation
  • Activity packs for children
  • Easter eggs
  • Activity packs for parents
  • Family support maintained by telephone
  • Telephone counselling appointments offered
  • Grants and donations accessed
  • Resources, competitions, photos and stories shared online

As well as providing food parcels, Easter Eggs and activity/resources packs  the family support team have been checking in by phone with families for welfare checks, helping complete forms via the phone or online, helping people to make new benefit claims and manage with reduced finances due to loss of work.  They continue to provide emotional support and help families navigate through this difficult time. In total in the first 28 days of lockdown we made over 1100 contacts with families.

One of our counsellors has been providing telephone counselling, not just to her normal clients but to anyone wanting a little more support at the moment. In that first 28 days she completed 15 hours of telephone counselling.

New referrals are still coming in and are being addressed.

Aiming Higher’s social media is full of positive posts, offering ideas, support, photos and feedback from families – with fantastic photos and videos of what we and our families are doing at this time.
